Home Affairs Minister Muhyiddin Yassin hopes the impasse over the appointment of a new attorney-general will not drag on for too long.

“I hope that this matter will be resolved with the wisdom from both sides, that is the prime minister and the government as well as the palace.

“Based on consideration and wisdom and following the provisions in the constitution, I do not think this will become an unsolvable issue which will drag on,” he told a press conference at Bukit Aman today.

The Conference of Rulers is expected to deliberate on the matter during a special meeting tomorrow, he revealed.

Hopefully, this will resolve any issue in deciding on an attorney-general, he added.

“Us in the cabinet, we fully support the prime minister and this is an important step in ensuring any legal actions and implementation can take place going forward,” Muhyiddin said.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday announced that the government had nominated senior lawyer Tommy Thomas as the government’s choice to replace Mohd Apandi Ali as attorney-general.

Earlier, it was reported that the Conference of Rulers had put the matter on hold for about a week over the choice of a non-Muslim as the candidate.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said Mahathir had informed the cabinet that a full cabinet list will be announced by this week.

“I do not know the exact day, but that is what we were told.

“So wait a bit, be patient,” he said, when asked by a reporter about when exactly the full cabinet list will be revealed.
