Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has scrapped 10 projects with an estimated value of RM1 billion, sKL mayor Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz (above, in tie) said today.

"Got a few more projects I chopped," Mohd Amin told reporters when met after a meeting with the Council of Eminent Persons at Kuala Lumpur's Ilham Tower this afternoon.

"Easily almost 10 (projects) […] almost RM1 billion (in value).

"Whichever projects which have yet to be tendered out, I have chopped," Mohd Amin said when quizzed for further details.

He was asked for comments on whether DBKL had plans to cancel more projects following his announcement last Wednesday that a RM180 million contract to repaint its low-cost flats had been terminated with immediate effect.

Mohd Amin, however, refused to reveal further details surrounding his meeting with the council.

Meanwhile, council member former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz said that an announcement on all proposals received would be made soon by its chairperson Daim Zainuddin.

Asked whether the council had deliberated on a mechanism to lower prices following removal of the Goods and Services Tax, Zeti said: "There will be announcements soon for all proposals [...]... (it) will be made by Tun Daim."

Other council members include former Petronas president Mohd Hassan Merican, economist Jomo Kwame Sundaram and a representative of business tycoon Robert Kuok.

Malaysiakini understands that the Institutional Reforms Committee is also set to wrap up its submissions by next week before tabling its recommendations to the council.
