While former Pahang menteri besar Adnan Yaakob was trying to settle a suit filed by his lawyers against him at the Kuala Lumpur High Court, a 60-year-old man was hauled to the neighbouring Sessions Court for not paying more than RM12,000 he owed with a cooperative company.

Upon noticing the man who appeared weak, Adnan, 68, then walked over and inquired what he was there for.

A lawyer, Aliff Ridhuan, who was representing the cooperative concerned, then told him he was being summoned for an unpaid debt.

Adnan then asked the man what he was suffering from and was told he had stage four kidney cancer which was not curable.

On hearing this, the former Pahang menteri besar then pledged to settle whatever amount the man owed.

Adnan then asked one of his aides to take the man's particulars and also informed Aliff to contact his aide for payment of the amount.

"You do not have to worry I will pay the amount. Please take care of yourself. You can go home," Adnan told the ailing man inside the courtroom which was not in session.

One of Adnan's aide then told reporters that some perceived Adnan as one with a very rough demeanour but he had his soft side which many were not aware of.

When met, the man said he had come from Ipoh and sought treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital but was told after tests that his cancer could not be treated either through medication, kidney replacement, radiotherapy or chemotherapy.

"It is not treatable so I am just waiting for my time," said the ailing man who wished to remain anonymous. He said he was thankful for the former Pahang MB's gesture.

Aliff, when met later, said he was confident Adnan would pay the amount. He later met Sessions Court judge Nurul Husna Awang in chambers.

"I will inform Adnan of the amount and contact the aide. I am confident this can be settled," Aliff of the firm of Messrs Hisham Sobri and Kadir said.
