S'wak PKR lodges report over DA424M-NG diamond plane purchase

Sarawak PKR today lodged a police report against the the state government for the latter’s alleged purchase of a ‘DA424M-NG Diamond’ plane worth RM35 million.

Its state vice chairman See Chee How made the report at the Kuching divisional police station.

He said he would also lodge a similar complaint with the Malaysian Ant-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Monday.

The Batu Lintang assemblyman said he was prompted to make the police report after reading an article titled “Forest Department Sarawak will be able to fly soon” in an online portal called the Dayak Daily yesterday.

The Dayak Daily quoted Sarawak Forestry Department acting director Hamden Mohammad as saying among others, “..the plane is now undergoing testing by the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom), in line with the stringent standard operating procedure (SOP). We hope we can take delivery of the plane soon.”

See claimed the purchase of the fixed-wing four-seater DA424M-NG Diamond plane was bought using Federal Natural Resources and Environment Ministry allocation and that it would be parked under the state Forestry Department.

“To say that the plane is now undergoing testing by Mavcom, the police and the Federal Transport Ministry must investigate whether there is/are individuals) or private person(s) and or private/public companies involved in the transaction of this ‘DA42M-NG Diamond' plane.

“And what is/are their arrangements with the Federal Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment and the Forestry Department Sarawak in supplying this allegedly hugely over-priced fixed-wing four-seater DA42M-NG Diamond' plane," See told reporters after lodging a police report in Kuching today.

See said on Oct 26 and 27 last year, the purchase of the plane was widely reported in all the newspapers in Sarawak.

“From our research findings it appears that the government had paid excessive sums for this light twin-engine utility and trainer aircraft, albeit a special mission variant with modification from the standard DA42 aircraft,” he said.
