Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will have separate meetings with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald J Trump when they visit the republic for the US-North Korea Summit.

According to Singapore Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Lee will have a meeting with Kim today while Trump the next day.

Trump and Kim are to have the first ever US-North Korea Summit in Singapore on Tuesday.

The summit, which will take place at the Capella Hotel on Singapore's Sentosa Island, is expected to kick off at 9am.

The summit is being organised following a strained relation between Pyongyang and Washington after North Korean launched a series of nuclear tests last year.

Singapore Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam had reportedly said that it was “absolutely” in the country's interest to contribute to the peace process by hosting the Trump-Kim summit.

“You have a nuclear-capable North Korea. You have American troops in South Korea. And, saying the obvious, the US is a nuclear state. You have a stand-off with the United States and Democratic People's Republic of Korea, and you have a nervous South Korea and Japan.

“It's a period of tension and you have China which has, obviously, an interest. If there is any incident, it'll be bad for the whole world, in particular Asia. We will be badly affected,” he said.
