Information Minister Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir said that the government will ensure local radio stations run by RTM operates as the "People's Radio", a channel for information and entertainment for all Malaysians.

He told Bernama in Jitra, Kedah, today that various information on current issues and development could be obtained by the people through the newly rebranded radio stations according to areas and states.

"With the 24-hour broadcast for channels like KedahFM, the people and listeners can benefit from it as it is the only radio broadcast for them," he said after viewing preparations for the 24-hour broadcast of KedahFM.

Launched tonight

The 24-hour broadcast will be launched by the Sultan of Kedah tonight, with entertainment performances from famous local artistes like Mawi, Mas Idayu, Kartina Aziz, Sabri Yunus and many others.

In efforts to upgrade the channel, Kadir said a programme advisory panel would be set up to improve on the radio broadcast presentation and content.

Kadir said KedahFM's 24-hour broadcast could also be received in Perlis, Penang, Kelantan and south Thailand.
