Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (above) has warned that he will not hesitate to lodge a complaint with the MACC if it is found that any member had misused the party name for favours.

He was responding after letters, purportedly pertaining to the dealings of a Federal Territories Bersatu Youth member and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) over Ramadan bazaar plots this year, had gone viral.

The letters, bearing the DBKL logo, alleged that the Bersatu member had used his position to obtain a number of bazaar plots.

It was also alleged the plots were then leased to other traders via a middleman.

When contacted, Syed Saddiq said he took the matter seriously and promised to investigate if the party name had indeed been used for personal gains.

"I do not and will never condone the use of any party’s name to get favours from the government.

"If this letter is authentic and (it is found that) because of party-politics, a favour was obtained illegally, I personally will report this case to SPRM (MACC) and hope those involved will do the same," he stated to Malaysiakini.

He stressed there would be no fear or favour in rebuilding a new Malaysia even if it involved his own party members. 

'Wrong is wrong'

The Muar MP followed this up with a statement early this morning, in which he said he has contacted traders and others involved for their explanations and to collate evidence over the claims.

He called on anyone with more information on the case to get in touch with him.

"I welcome the MACC to investigate the case if indeed there has been any wrongdoing involved over the rental of the plots, and with the use of party name without permission.

"Being in government does not mean that I am ignoring all the wrongdoings that are in front of my eyes.

"Wrong is wrong," he said.

Meanwhile, Federal Territories Bersatu chief Muhammad Suhaimi Yahya said tough disciplinary action would be taken "immediately" if it is proven that the individual involved had misused the party name.

He told Malaysiakini: "This is not from Bersatu. This is an individual act that may have used the Bersatu name, and if true, it violates the party's constitution.
