Myanmar, UN vow to cooperate in addressing challenges

Myanmar and the United Nations (UN) have vowed to cooperate in addressing the challenges Myanmar is facing especially the issue of Rakhine, China's Xinhua news agency reported, citing Myanmar News Agency on Thursday.

The pledge came after Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi met with visiting new Special Envoy of the UN secretary-general on Myanmar Christine Schraner Burgener on Wednesday.

The two exchanged views on the efforts of the Myanmar government regarding the reconciliation and peace process in the country.

During their meeting, Burgener said her mission was to liaise with the Myanmar government to enhance cooperation with the UN in a construction manner to address the issue of Rakhine, among others.

Aung San Suu Kyi emphasised the need for the special envoy to try to get to know the ground situation and its complexities in an objective manner and to stand up for the truth and convey the real situation to the international community.

Aung San Suu Kyi hoped that the special envoy can act as a bridge and positively contribute to strengthening cooperation between Myanmar and UN.
