Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos' believes the new government is imposing the "rule of the jungle" on him.

This was conveyed through his representative Arman Azha Abu Hanifah, who said he had communicated with Jamal earlier today.

"In feedback from our conversation earlier today, he feels the current government is trying to find fault with his past, that which is not grounded on the rule of law.

"Today, what we see from the current government is more rule of the jungle particularly in terms of wanting to punish Jamal," he said.

Jamal is contesting the position of Umno Youth chief but had disappeared from public view after absconding during his bail process.

He is wanted by police for various offences including for disorderly use of a firearm.

Arman, who was at the Umno headquarters today to draw a number for Jamal's candidacy, insisted that he is qualified to contest despite being on the run.

A total of nine candidates are eligible to contest the Umno Youth chief's post at the upcoming party polls.

Following balloting at the Umno headquarters this evening after the closing of nominations, officials confirmed Jamal had qualified as a candidate for the wing's top post.

Arman, who drew the number "6" on behalf of Jamal, said he believed Jamal was still in the country.

"He had mobilised the youth to take to the streets against the Bersih movement so that may have been included in his report card for him to be nominated as a (youth chief) candidate," he added.

Arrest warrant

On May 25, Jamal pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing a public nuisance by smashing beer bottles in front of the Selangor state secretariat building here on Oct 5, 2017.

The proceeding was conducted at the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital in Kuala Lumpur where Jamal was undergoing treatment for his back pain.

However, he was reported missing from the hospital at 5.30pm the same day by the Shah Alam Court registrar who was handling his bail documentation process.

The Ampang Magistrate’s Court on June 1 then issued a warrant of arrest against Jamal under Section 224 of the Penal Code for escaping from detention.

Jamal later posted a video onto his Facebook page denying that he had fled the country.
