Whether a consensus was reached among Selangor Pakatan Harapan parties over Amirudin Shari’s appointment as menteri besar remains an open question.

Earlier today, Ijok assemblyperson Dr Idris Ahmad had alleged that there was no consensus over both Amirudin and Azmin Ali’s appointment on May 11. 

He also showed evidence that it was he who had received separate written endorsements for the position by the Selangor chapters of Amanah, Bersatu and DAP, alongside PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail earlier this month.

When approached after Amirudin was sworn in today, Selangor Bersatu chief Abdul Rashid Asari said his party would accept anyone chosen by the sultan.

“On behalf of Bersatu, we are neutral. The Selangor constitution states that the menteri besar shall be appointed by His Majesty.

“It is up to His Majesty to choose who is best suited to take over as menteri besar,” he said.

Rashid (photo) added that PKR has the majority in the Selangor legislative assembly, and therefore had a right to put forth their choice of menteri besar.

'We will follow PKR's decision'

Similarly, Selangor Amanah chief Izham Hashim told Malaysiakini that his party would accede to PKR’s decision on the choice of candidate to lead Selangor.

“Our decision (on this issue) will be based on PKR’s decision. There was consultation, but finally, we will follow PKR’s final decision.

“We gave our opinions and we had our say. In the end, we allowed them to nominate whoever they feel suitable for Selangor. This is the spirit (of our cooperation) in this state,” he said.

Izham (photo) said Selangor Amanah’s focus now was to get down to work.

“If there are any problems among them (Idris and PKR), let them sort it out. It is now time for us to work. Our focus is on developing Selangor. It has been a month since the elections,” he added.

When contacted, Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua declined to comment.

Meanwhile, PKR vice-president Tian Chua told Malaysiakini that Idris should have conducted himself better.

“He should not be making statements that would undermine Harapan with unverified claims.

“The process of appointing the menteri besar is the prerogative of the top Harapan leadership,” he said.
