Bersatu has plans to expand the party into Sarawak, though they will stay out of Sabah, said its chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“We might go into Sarawak. We have yet to decide but we were thinking because the other Pakatan Harapan parties are already in Sarawak but we are not.

“We will not go into Sabah because we see Warisan as our ally, so we don’t have to go to Sabah,” Mahathir, who is also the prime minister, said in a press conference at the Bersatu headquarters in Petaling Jaya today.

He said they have received strong requests from people in Sarawak for Bersatu to have a presence in their state.

Seeing that not only their fellow component parties in Harapan have expanded to Sarawak, but even PAS, he said it is proper for Bersatu to also go to Sarawak.

However, they have not decided on who will lead Bersatu Sarawak, with Mahathir saying those in Sarawak will choose their own leader.

On whether Harapan would allow Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to join the ruling coalition, he said that was GPS’ prerogative.

“Whoever joins Harapan should already be supportive of us,” he said.

Mahathir just had a meeting with GPS leaders yesterday at Seri Perdana.
