A classroom at Sekolah Kebangsaan Simpang Renggam was surprised when they found Education Minister Maszlee Malik was among them.

The Simpang Renggam MP had made the surprise visit in conjunction with the first day of school after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri break yesterday. In Johor, Sunday is the first day of the week.

In videos uploaded on social media, Maszlee was seen sneaking into a classroom, surprising a teacher when she turned away from the blackboard.

In the 8.30am visit, Maszlee engaged with teachers and students there and surveyed the school.

"Study hard and listen to your teachers," Maszlee had told the students.

Maszlee's visit to the school was based on information which listed the school as among those in need of aid, particularly upgrades on the building and classroom.

After the visit, Maszlee promised that he will take follow-up actions to ensure the needs of the school are met.

Sekolah Kebangsaan Simpang Renggam was commissioned in 1945 and officiated in 1947.

The school has more than 1,000 students and have to conduct two sessions of classes.

In the May 9 general election, Maszlee won the Simpang Renggam parliamentary seat a 3,475-vote majority.

This was despite both the state seats there, namely Machap and Layang-Layang, were won by BN.
