The travel ban on all the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan defaulters has been lifted, new chairperson Wan Saiful Wan Jan said today.

He said PTPTN, in cooperation with the Immigration Department, has cleared all 429,945 blacklisted names.

The clearance process was completed on June 8, a week earlier than expected, Wan Saiful told a media conference at the PTPTN Tower in Kuala Lumpur.

&quot;Now 1.8 million PTPTN borrowers who should repay the loan can travel abroad, apply and renew their passports without restrictions from the Immigration,&quot; he said, adding that the PTPTN counter at KLIA2 will be closed down by July 1.

However, Wan Saiful advised PTPTN borrowers to continue paying back the debts despite the abolishment of the blacklist.

&quot;Consistent payment on the loan will help borrowers with their Central Credit Reference Information System (CCRIS). A healthy CCRIS report will help them in securing other loans such as personal, housing, and car.&quot;

He added that borrowers who settle their PTPTN loans early can enjoy the 20 percent discount (for the lump sum settlement) and the 10 percent discount (for paying half of the remaining debt in one payment).

Wan Saiful also dismissed a viral social media message that only those whose parents are BR1M recipients eligible to apply for PTPTN loans.

&quot;That statement is not true. PTPTN is open to all Malaysian students who wish to study at government or private institutions, regardless of their parents or caretakers&#39; income.&quot;
