Annuar Musa has outlined his pledges for his bid to become Umno’s deputy president, including being the right-hand man for the president and helping to rebuild the party.

In a statement today, the Umno information chief hoped that his over 30 years of political experience would assist him in fulfilling his pledges.

"The deputy president must be the right-hand man to the president, work harder than the president, be more energetic and vocal, and offer advice without fear and favour, and always willing to help.

"He must also assist the opposition chief, in order to plan and form a formidable opposition bloc, so as to effectively carry the rakyat's voice and aspirations to the Dewan Rakyat," he said.

The party number two, Annuar stressed, must also facilitate changes in the party, by helping the president and the supreme council study and prepare suggestions for the party's selection process, separation of powers and strengthening its machinery.

He also said he would embark on a tour to galvanise Umno members across the country.

His other pledges include building a strategic network to enable it to recapture Putrajaya, and ensuring the party does not remain grounded after the devastating May 9 polls defeat.

"These pledges will be fulfilled if I'm given the responsibility and trust by the grassroots, come June 30.

"My 30 years of experience as a parliamentarian, cabinet member, assemblyperson and senator will hopefully help the Umno president and the party.

"Let us rise up and embrace the struggle of the party, and emerge as a formidable opponent," he said.

Annuar is up against former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Mohamad Hasan and Pekan delegate Mohd Afnalizam Mohd Salim for the deputy president post.

The Umno wings conducted their election on June 23, while the main body will hold party polls this Saturday.
