Former deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has extended his lead against former youth and sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin in the race to become Umno president, with unofficial results from 127 divisions already in.

Zahid is leading with 58 divisions out of 191, while Khairy has 47 divisions.

Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, however, is trailing with the support of just 22 divisions.

The results were posted by the Pemilihan Umno 2018 Twitter account.

Meanwhile, in the deputy presidency contest, former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Mohamad Hasan has the votes of 27 divisions, while Keterah MP Annuar Musa has 16

The contest for the three vice-president posts are also heating up. Former minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob is in the lead with 16 votes, followed by fellow ex-cabinet members Johari Abdul Ghani with 15, and Mahdzir Khalid, 14.

Former Johor menteri besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin has 13 votes, Tajuddin Abdul Rahman 12, and Ahmad Said has one.

Khairy was a last minute entrant to the presidential race.

Umno's party polls uses the winner-takes-all electoral college system, meaning whoever gets the most votes at a division gets one vote.

Besides Zahid, Khairy, and Razaleigh, there were two other lesser known entrants in the Umno presidential race.

They are Mohamed Iqbal Maricair from the Bandar Tun Razak division and Mohd Yusof Musa @ Jamaluddin from the Iskandar Puteri division.

Neither secured enough votes to win a division.
