Conference of Rulers hails peaceful transition of power

The Conference of Rulers expressed its appreciation to various quarters who helped ensuring that 14th General Election (GE14) carried out in peaceful and smooth manner.

Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah who chaired the first day of the 249th meeting of the Conference of Rulers today said ballots cast by the voters had determined an election outcome that transformed country’s political landscape and created a new chapter in the nation’s history.

“‘Alhamdulillah’ (praise be to Allah), the process of power transition was carried out in an open, smooth and peaceful manner, proving that Malaysians are politically matured. Malaysians showed the world that democracy in this country has reached the level of maturity,” he said.

Undoubtedly, the intensity of campaigning had caused people to be divided into two opposing parties, however, Sultan Nazrin, who is also Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong, believed that efforts to bring unity to the people were highly possible.

“For the sake of the country’s future, efforts to restore unity of the people must be approached by practicing high democratic culture and to uphold the spirit of inclusivity, that the victors do not win everything, while losers do not lose all,” he said.

Sultan Nazrin also said the Conference of Rulers is a unique and special forum where the constitutional monarchy system and the ‘rakyat’ (people) were brought together and where the affairs were conducted via ‘musyawarah’ (consensus), and that not all the topics of discussions were made public.
