The Election Court in Kuala Lumpur today fixed Sept 3 to 20 to hear the Cameron Highlands election petition filed by DAP's M Manogaran.

The date was fixed by Justice Azizah Nawawi in chambers during the case management today.

Manogaran's lawyers M Rajendrakumar and Damian Chan turned up in the chambers, along with lawyer Nik Alia Hanafi for MIC's C Sivaraajh, who has been declared the holder of the parliamentary seat.

Rajendrakumar said they have yet to decide on how many witnesses their client will call.

Nik Alia said his party filed an application to strike out Manogaran’s bid, but could not disclose the grounds as it had just been filed today.

Justice Azizah also fixed July 19 for further case management.

Manogaran filed the petition on June 5 to nullify the outcome of the Cameron Highlands election result, alleging that Sivaraajh had bribed and threatened the voters, especially the Orang Asli community, which comprises 20 percent of the voters there.

Manogaran said Sivaraajh and Jelai assemblyperson Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail had paid constituents "duit rokok" (financial inducement), resulting in him losing the Cameron Highlands seat by 597 votes in the May 9 general election.

In his 161-page petition filed in Kuala Lumpur, the DAP member said he had lost many Orang Asli votes despite having campaigned there since 2016.
