Selangor Umno has put forward the names of four candidates for the Sungai Kandis by-election on August 4.

State Umno liaison chief Noh Omar was quoted saying in Berita Harian that the candidates comprise of old timers, and new faces, of both genders.

The list will be handed to Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for vetting, he said.

"Yesterday I met the president (Zahid) and had a talk, I leave the decision (on the candidate) to the president.

"Selangor Umno is also agreeable to using the Umno logo in the by-election, but everything depends on the central leadership," Noh told a press conference after attending a function in Tanjung Karang, today.

According to Noh, the state Umno would also comply with any decisions to not field Umno leaders, or party leaders from outside the constitution, in the by-election.

"We will support whoever the candidate is chosen by the party, we will also emerge with a new theme during campaigning, which is 'vote for Umno if you want Pakatan Harapan to fulfil their promises'," he said.

Noh stressed that he will not take up the reign as the Selangor Umno liaison chief again and will only hold on to the position until the party president announces a replacement.

"It's definitely not me, I have failed to lead Selangor BN to victory in the 14th general election.

"I will give chance to new blood who might have better approaches than me, in taking this position," he was quoted.

The Sungai Kandis seat became vacant following the death of the assemblyperson Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei on July 2. The Election Commission set nomination for July 21 and polling for Aug 4.
