Muar will soon become Johor’s sports hub, Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (above) said.

He said the town had a sports infrastructure but the facilities were not shared or opened for public use.

"We will build the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium as a sports hub which will be equipped with a swimming pool, running tracks and a rugby field that can be used by the people," he told reporters while attending the Citra Raya Muar celebrations at the stadium today.

He said that once the facilities were upgraded, they would be open and ready for public use.

"Pagoh has a Sports University and in Muar, there should a sports attraction," he said.

Syed Saddiq said that he also wants the town to have more appeal to young people so that they would remain in Muar. It could then be a hub for youth.

"I would like to make Muar as Mutiara Johor (the Pearl of Johor)," he said.

Meanwhile, in another development, the Muar MP said he would travel to Indonesia tonight to inspire the under-19s squad (B-19) to play Myanmar on the AFF Under-19 Championship final (B-19 ) 2018 in Surabaya, Indonesia scheduled to take place tomorrow.

"In addition to inspiring and giving encouragement to them (everyone in the squad), we want to celebrate last night's victory when our B-19 squad managed to beat the hosts, Indonesia to advance to the final.

"I ask that all Malaysians give their support to our team and don’t be glued to watching only the 2018 World Cup matches," he said.
