Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi looks set to be the parliamentary opposition leader, according to the seating arrangement of the opposition bench in the Dewan Rakyat as Parliament resumes today.

This is because the Bagan Datuk MP has been marked to sit in the first seat of the first row of the opposition bench.

It is learnt that the seat next to his is reserved for former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak who is the Pekan MP.

On the front bench meanwhile, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his deputy Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail take the lead.

Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who is on a month's medical leave, has a seat next to Wan Azizah followed by those for Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng and Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu.

Transport Minister Antony Loke will be sitting behind the premier, said Lim Swee Kuan, Lim’s press secretary in a Facebook post today.

It is believed that the Parliament secretariat may upload the seating map on its official website later today.

When met at the Parliament building lobby, Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa confirmed that his party named Zahid as opposition leader.

PAS, which controls 18 parliamentary seats, had stated earlier the party did not want to take up the post.
