Nazifuddin Najib's trip to the World Cup final in Russia last Sunday was not paid for by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) or the Youth and Sports Ministry, according to minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

"I checked with OCM. He went there in his own private capacity.

"OCM and the ministry did not pay for his trip," Syed Saddiq tweeted today.

Nazifuddin, the son of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, had shared several images of him taken during the final between France and Croatia at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Facebook.

The post was met by criticism from netizens including celebrity cook, Chef Wan.

This was in relation to Nazifuddin's previous complaints against Putrajaya for freezing the bank accounts of Najib's family members, which he said caused emotional distress and hampered medical treatment for his cancer-stricken sister Puteri Norlisa.

In another Facebook post yesterday, Nazifuddin said that he would soon be flying to Jakarta to attend the 2018 Asian Games in Palembang.

He also added the hashtag #IWorkInSports, which is believed to be a reference to his current position as secretary-general of the OCM which he assumed in May.
