UPDATED 6:09 PM | The government through the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department will discuss with the speaker of the Dewan Rakyat the appointing of an opposition parliamentarian to helm the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) as stipulated in the Pakatan Harapan manifesto.

"The Dewan Rakyat speaker's office will discuss the matter with the minister during our weekly meeting on Thursday," said Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Nga Kor Ming today.

"We will announce our decision, if any, at an appropriate time," he told the media at Parliament.

Appointing an opposition MP as PAC chief was among promises made by Harapan towards parliamentary reform in their manifesto for the 14th general election.

Towards this, Harapan was serious in fulfilling its promise with regard to PAC chief's post, said Nga.

Meanwhile, BN Ketereh MP Annuar Musa said the opposition coalition is interested in helming PAC.

"I hope they will honour their promise," he said at Parliament lobby.

He, however, said the Dewan Rakyat has yet to notify the opposition to nominate a candidate for that post.

BN Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin said BN will discuss the PAC chief candidate on Thursday.
