BN will announce the formation of a group akin to a shadow cabinet next week, said Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa.

"I think BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi should be able to announce it (the group) next week," he said.

He said BN will not label the group as a shadow cabinet although it will be "similar in nature".

The group is expected to comprise members of Parliament from BN parties, namely Umno, MCA, and MIC.

Pakatan Harapan has pledged in its manifesto to reform Parliament and enable the legislative branch to play its proper role.

The coalition also pledged to set up a Dewan Rakyat select committee to monitor every ministry with the power to call ministers and senior officials to testify.

Annuar, who is also the Ketereh MP, said BN would set up its own parliamentarians council to ensure better quality in the debate of the opposition lawmakers.

"We want to get ourselves organised better and we want to have more discussion and encourage more lawmakers to coordinate one another so we can improve the quality of BN's debate," he added.

'Like novices'

Annuar also He said BN lawmakers would play an effective check and balance role to help Harapan administer the country better.

He raised concern over the way Harapan ministers and deputy ministers answered in the Dewan Rakyat which he said was based on their own views rather than being based on government policy.

"I think they were offering their own views and using their own logic," he said.

"Some of them are not answering the questions asked and sometimes their answers lack facts. They look like novices," he said.

"I think we should give them time and we should help them settle down," Annuar added.
