Seri Setia assemblyperson Shaharuddin Badaruddin's family has denied a media report that claimed the PKR member is critically ill.

In a statement issued by his secretary Zafrullah Aris this morning, the family said Shaharuddin would be resting for a month before resuming his duties.

“Shaharuddin’s family would like to strongly deny the news report that he is in critical condition and being treated in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit).

“He is currently resting after undergoing treatment. According to the doctor's advice, he will rest for a month before returning to his duties.

“Shaharuddin has already informed the Selangor menteri besar about this,” Zafrullah added.

He said the family has also appealed to the media and public not to speculate or spread rumours about Shaharuddin's health.

“I hope everyone will respect the family's wish to give him some space to rest,” he added.

Yesterday, Sin Chew Daily reported that Shaharuddin, who had been suffering from colon cancer, was critically ill.

In the May 9 general election, Shaharuddin won the Seri Setia seat by a landslide, garnering 29,250 votes.

He defeated BN's Yusoff M Haniff, PAS' Mohd Ghazali Daud and independent S Vigneswaran.
