The Education Ministry is probing allegations of graft and sexual harassment involving top officers in one of its departments.

The allegations were made in an anonymous letter sent to the ministry as well as Malaysiakini.

Contacted later, Education Minister Maszlee Malik confirmed that the matter is being investigated.

"The matter is already in our attention, my officers are investigating the matter to see if it is true or otherwise," he told Malaysiakini.

The anonymous sender had accused a department director and his two deputies of the alleged misconduct.

The accusations, however, were sweeping in nature with no clear examples to support the allegations.

The sender accused the director of sexually harassing female officers through words and actions, and claimed to have also been a victim.

Meanwhile, the two deputies allegedly had a hand in the procurement of tenders and quotations.

This included the hiring of a private company to promote the 1BestariNet and Frog Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) initiatives at schools.

"The director does not know anything (about the deputy directors' actions) – he only disturbs women," the sender said.

Malaysiakini is attempting to contact former education minister Mahdzir Khalid for comment.
