Political cartoonist Zunar will take legal action against the Penang police for confiscating his artworks despite his sedition probe being designated as 'no further action' (NFA).

"NFA, but I will sue the police for not returning my artwork," he told Malaysiakini today.

Zunar, the nom de plume of Zulkiflee Anwar Alhaque, said he had just received word from Penang police that no further action will be taken in the investigation into his alleged sedition, and that his artworks would be returned. 

In October 2016, he was arrested by police under the 1948 Sedition Act and detained overnight.

"I was detained after Penang Umno Youth members disrupted my exhibition in Komtar," Zunar recalled.

Zunar had filed a summons against the Penang police in April this year to reclaim 15 of his artworks which had been seized by police from Komtar.

At the time, the cartoonist said each of his large framed artworks cost RM15,000.

"Yes, I can take back my artworks, but I will still sue you," Zunar warned.

On July 30 this year, Zunar's nine sedition charges were dropped by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.

The charges were in relation to him allegedly insulting the judiciary in tweets on de facto PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim's 2015 conviction for sodomy.
