Mohd Bakke Salleh is new palm oil board chair

Mohd Bakke Salleh has been appointed as chairperson of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) for a two-year term, effective July 31, 2018.

He is currently the executive deputy chairperson and managing director of Sime Darby Plantations Bhd and has vast experience in the oil palm industry, having served plantation companies including as president and group chief executive of Sime Darby Bhd.

“Mohd Bakke was responsible for overseeing the core divisions within the (Sime Darby) group which includes plantation, property, industrial, motors and logistics,” MPOB said in a statement.

Prior to joining Sime Darby, Mohd Bakke was the group managing director of Felda Holdings Bhd and subsequently, he was appointed the group president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd in January 2009.

He was also previously the group managing director and CEO of Lembaga Tabung Haji.

Mohd Bakke graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Economics) from the London School of Economics, the United Kingdom in 1977.
