Outgoing PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and president-elect Anwar Ibrahim have called for clean and fair conduct in the forthcoming party elections.

Anwar said candidates who are in the government should not abuse their positions to coerce members to vote for them.

"The deputy prime minister, ministers, menteri besar, excos can't coerce members to garner votes.

"There has been no official complaint, but such concerns have been raised, so it must be stopped," Anwar said, adding that such abuses would not be tolerated.

He added that PKR was established to fight corruption and abuse of power, and as such, the party must uphold such ideals, with friend or foe.

Meanwhile, Wan Azizah called for candidates to campaign in a brotherly manner, and refrain from personal attacks.

"No swipes at one another, no personal attacks whatsoever," she said.

The PKR elections are set to be a battle between rivals: incumbent deputy president Azmin Ali and his challenger Rafizi Ramli.

Anwar won the PKR presidency unopposed last Sunday, while Wan Azizah is not contesting any post.

Anwar said Wan Azizah would remain party president until the PKR Congress in November.

The PKR elections will take place over several weeks, starting in Kelantan and Terengganu on Sept 14, and ending in Sabah on Oct 13.
