Staff of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti) have been asked by their minister to identify their own weaknesses as well as weaknesses of the organisational structure in order to strengthen the ministry's service.

Rafidah Aziz said that Miti's staff and its agencies should be intelligent enough to tackle such weaknesses and also be aware of global, regional and domestic economic changes.

This is because Miti and its agencies are directly responsible in bringing in and encouraging expansion in the trade and industry sector, Bernama quoted her as saying.

"Success in such sector would mean that the economy is improving and this can increase workers' salaries and returns to investments," the minister said at the 'Miti Night 2005' last night.

She also urged Miti's staff to update information on market profile, technology and the changes in the industrial sector which could help the private sector sustain their competitiveness.

Apart from this, Rafidah said that Miti staff should also improve their command of English and other languages to enable them to fully understand bilateral, regional and global issues discussed.

She said that Miti staff should always monitor and identify bureaucratic issues so that there would be no parties within or outside Miti who would tarnish the image of the government and Malaysia as a country which is competitive, investor friendly and business friendly.
