PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has declined a call by the Terengganu PKR chairperson Azan Ismail for senior citizens to be allowed to vote via ballot papers instead of the new e-voting system at the coming party elections.

Saifuddin said there was no need to exempt senior citizens from using the e-voting system as there will be on-duty volunteers available who will help them with using the system.

"No, we will not consider the request (by Azan) for flexibility for senior citizens as there will be officers who will help them," he told a press conference after opening the 2018 SSM national conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Azan, who is a candidate for the vice-president post, had expressed his concern that a number of senior citizens might boycott the party election as they are not familiar with the e-voting system.

However, he said that it's not a serious matter which would lead to the party dropping the system.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin, who is also the minister of the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, urged business owners who have been compounded by the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) to pay their compounds and take advantage of a new SSM incentive.

Saifuddin said, starting from Sept 1, those paying their compounds can enjoy an 80 percent discount. However, the discount rate will decrease by 10 percent over each subsequent month.

He said the offers ends on Dec 31.
