The High Court in Kuala Lumpur has today fixed Sept 20 and 21 as trial dates for Energy, Technology, Science, Climate Change and Environment Minister Yeo Bee Yin's defamation suit against Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Mohd Yunos.

This is unless a settlement can be reached between both parties.

The date was fixed by Justice Nik Hasmat Nik Mohamed in chambers following case management, said Yeo's lawyer K Murali.

"If there is no settlement, the trial will proceed," he said.

Yeo (above), formerly the Damansara Utama assemblyperson and now Bakri MP, claimed that Jamal defamed her following his allegation that she misappropriated state funds meant for the Senior Citizens Friendly Scheme and disbursed through the Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) organisation.

She claimed that Jamal alleged that she had shortchanged her constituents and that such claims had affected her reputation. She is claiming RM5 million in damages.
