You could have been axed in the past – Umno leader tells KJ

An Umno supreme council leader has cautioned Khairy Jamaluddin against making moves which appear to contradict the party's stand.

“He must remember that he is fortunate that the party leadership is not stern... soft, and extremely tolerant. In the past, he could have been axed,” said Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.

He said the Rembau MP's actions have given the impression that the latter is not on the same page as Umno.

As someone older, Tajuddin said he should advise Khairy to be a team player.

“I want him to remain with Umno, be a team player in Umno, work as one team. But he needs to put an end to this attitude if he wants to be with Umno,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.

Previously Sukarelawan Malaysia president Isham Jalil, who served as an aide to former premier Najib Abdul Razak, had urged Khairy to join PKR or DAP.

He claimed that Khairy has shown that he is not with the struggle of the Malays or Islam.

Isham also said Khairy was perceived as an opportunist when he criticised Najib, who is the former Umno president.

Khairy responded that he wanted to bring changes to Umno and not to be trapped in a denial syndrome.
