PKR's new regulations barring its party election candidates from holding big events is not meant to target Rafizi Ramli.

Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said this when asked if the new regulation was aimed at the deputy presidential candidate.

"No, it is for all candidates," she said after a prayer event at Surau Al Falah, Taman Cempaka.

Malaysiakini reported today that PKR had rolled out a new set of strict regulations on June 26, which include prohibiting candidates from conducting ceramah or hosting large feasts attended by more than 100 people.

According to the circular sighted by Malaysiakini, PKR stressed such campaign events should be held behind closed doors.

Besides this, PKR is also prohibiting candidates from using group images in their campaign materials.

Candidates who breach these new regulations run the risk of disciplinary action or being barred from contesting in the party polls altogether.

In his Aug 20 letter objecting to part of the new regulations, Rafizi claimed these code of ethics were aimed at him.

He said the party's election committee, which issued the circular, held an antagonistic attitude toward him.

'Don't talk about Dr M plot'

In another development, Wan Azizah urged the media not to talk about the alleged plot to stop Anwar Ibrahim from becoming the next prime minister. 

"Look, we are talking about (Hari Raya) Korban, this is the sacrifice we all had made, and now we won. Let's us fill the independence with victory.

"Why are you talking about all this, talk about hatching plots and all that? Don't. Don't.

"We have won and we changed the government. Isn't that the most important thing?"

Prior to the May 9 general election, Harapan parties agreed that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad would helm the nation for two years before passing the baton to Anwar. 

In recent months, however, speculation grew that Mahathir empowered Economic Affairs Minister and PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali to keep Anwar in check, particular when PKR election loomed. 

Despite both Azmin and Mahathir's denials, PKR lawmaker Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid accused Mahathir and his trusted advisor Daim Zainuddin of conspiring to prevent Anwar from becoming the next prime minister. 

Yesterday, however, Abdullah Sani said he wrote in to apologise to the prime minister for going overboard with his remarks. 

When asked today if she trusts Mahathir, Wan Azizah did not provide a direct answer.

"I am saying, we have to make this government a successful government."
