Even before the Pengkalan Pasir by-election in Kelantan can commence, Independent candidate Ibrahim Ali has lost one vote - his own.

According to Bernama , he is not a registered voter in the constituency and hence would not be able to cast his ballot.

Ibrahim, who will take on Barisan Nasional (BN) and PAS candidates Hanafi Mamat and Hanifa Ahmad respectively in tomorrow's contest, is a registered voter in the Tendong state constituency.

The other two candidates are eligible to cast their votes.

The by-election for the state seat is being held following the death of PAS incumbent Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Jaafar on Oct 31.

The contest is crucial as a victory for BN could put the PAS government on shaky ground.

Time for change

In a related development, Deputy Prime Minister said BN will bring about changes like a 'tidal wave' if the coalition is given the chance to rule Kelantan.

He said BN will not pull wool over the people's eyes by promising projects through the erection of billboards and drawings like PAS.

"BN has never lied (to the people). If BN promises, it delivers. BN will bring about changes like a tidal wave...," he told a gathering.

Najib reiterated that the by-election was an opportunity for the people of Kelantan in Pengakalan Pasir to send a signal that they are ready to accept BN.

Meanwhile, Gerakan Kelantan chairperson Ng Chiang Chin said he was confident that 99 percent of the Chinese voters in the constituency will pick BN.

At a separate function, Najib said voters should not feel afraid or pressured tomorrow and must make a rational decision.

"Under whatever circumstances, the federal government assures that the voters in Pengkalan Pasir will be free to come out and cast their ballots without fear.

"We want the voters to evaluate their choice rationally and not according to threats, empty promises or vote buying," he added.

Najib was commenting on the alleged aggressive actions by PAS including preventing two female vote canvassers from carrying out their tasks.
