PKR president Anwar Ibrahim made his debut at a Bersatu event today and declared it as the beginning of stronger cooperation in Pakatan Harapan.

He also spoke about his unlikely alliance with Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is now the prime minister, and expressed support for his leadership.

"This, to me, is an important beginning. I have not even attended any PKR events at the district level.

"I have attended PKR events at the state level but I have chosen this (Bersartu) Klang division as my first (district level event) to send a message.

"I would like to thank my Bersatu friends and may our cooperation be improved. Let us not forget the people's support," he said in his speech at the Hari Raya Aidil Adha open house hosted by Klang Bersatu chief Rais Hussin.

In his speech, Anwar also said Mahathir's position as prime minister was the people's demand.

"Mahathir leading the country was based on the people's demands. This is historic and it rarely happens - an alliance between Anwar and Mahathir, people cannot fathom it.

"But we joined forces due to our love for the country," he said.

Anwar said on behalf of PKR, he will ensure that Mahathir's leadership will be a strong and effective one so that he can fulfil the initial developmental agenda for the country interrupted.

He also addressed complaints that Harapan did not fully fulfil its 10 promises within 100 days.

Anwar stressed that what was important was Harapan's commitment in fulfilling them.

"When it comes to developing the nation, there are things we can achieve in one day, there are things we can resolve in 100 days and there are also other things that would take a year or two.

"What is important is our commitment to stop corruption and abuses. For the rest, God willing, we will have the strength to pull them off," he said.

Also present at the event was Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, who is also the defence minister.
