Cancer-stricken journalist appeals for donations

A former Tamil Nesan journalist afflicted with cancer is appealing for public donations.

VP Tawasegaran, 66, was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2009. He is no longer able to take in food orally and is subsisting on milk formula that is channelled into his stomach through a special apparatus.

“I was diagnosed as having cancer nine years ago. Since then, my health has been deteriorating and I have often been in and out of the hospital.

“I have undergone surgery thrice, in 2009, 2015 and 2016. On Aug 16, I was warded at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital,” Tawasegaran, a father of two, told Bernama when met at the hospital yesterday.

Tawasegaran has limited mobility because of his condition and now weighs a mere 29kg. He is facing financial difficulties as he has to fork out more than RM1,500 a month for medical expenses and the milk formula.

Tawasegaran is appealing for financial aid. Contributions can be made directly to his CIMB Bank account 06010733559528.
