Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today reminded the voters in Pengkalan Pasir, Kelantan, to choose the best and most capable candidate in tomorrow's by-election.

He said voters must pick a candidate who is of good character, possesses a good image and high qualifications.

Such a candidate, he added, would be able to serve the people with utmost dedication and more importantly be backed by a credible government like Barisan Nasional (BN).

"In view of this, it would be most appropriate for the voters to pick Hanafi Mamat ( the BN candidate) to be their state assemblyman," he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

Hanafi ( right ) will be contesting against Hanifa Ahmad from PAS and Independent candidate Ibrahim Ali. The by-election is being held following the death of PAS incumbent Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Jaafar on Oct 31.

Shape the future

Meanwhile, Najib also reminded the voters to come out and fulfill their obligation as tomorrow's contest could shape the political future of Kelantan.

A victory for BN could reduce the PAS majority in the state assembly to a single seat and pave the way for a snap elections.

Najib, who is also BN deputy chair, said he has received a confirmation letter from the Kelantan palace that the royalty is not supporting any quarters involved in the by-election.

Bernama said it had learnt that certain quarters, whom it did not identify, were claiming to have the backing of the palace.

In a related development, voters have been advised to bring their umbrellas tomorrow as rain is expected throughout the day.

According to the Kuantan meteorological department assistant director Muhamad Helmi Abdullah, intermittent showers are expected in the east coast, including Kelantan.
