Police today detained a man on suspicion of making a statement insulting Islam through social media.

Selangor CID chief Fadzil Ahmat in a statement today said the 24-year-old man from Kedah was nabbed at 3.40am in Johor Bahru.

"The suspect who resides in Johor Bahru is working in Singapore," he said.

He added that the suspect was detained after a police report was lodged in Sepang on Thursday over a two minute-and-35 second video of a man who insulted Islam that went viral on social media recently.

Fadzil said the suspect had been remanded until Wednesday to facilitate investigations under Section 298A of the Penal Code.
