MCA candidate 'excited to see name on ballot paper'

BALAKONG POLLS | MCA candidate Tan Chee Teong has cast his vote for the Balakong state by-election at SJK (C) Batu 11, Cheras.

The local boy of Balakong was accompanied by his wife Connie Chin, 38, father Tan Kim Huar, 66, and mother Lee Saw Wan, 62, who also voted at the same polling centre.

Tan who voted at 9.15 am at the sixth channel, looked calm was constantly smiling throughout the time he was at the polling centre.

“I am very happy and excited because for the first time I can see my name on the ballot paper,” he said.

Also present to take a closer look at the polling process at the polling centre was Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Wong Siew Ki.

Wong, who arrived at 9.30 am, also shook hands with Tan and other voters before leaving the venue at 9.50 am.

When met by reporters, Wong said he was satisfied with the smooth running of the polling process today.

“The ballot boxes has many ballot papers even though it is still morning and this is better than I expected,” he said.

In the by-election, Tan is facing Wong in a straight fight following the death of Balakong incumbent Eddie Ng Tien Chie in a road accident on July 20.

In the 14th General Election, Ng defeated Barisan Nasional candidate Lim Chin Wah and Mohamad Ibrahim Ghazali from PAS, with a majority of 35,538 votes.
