Yoursay: Umno leaders are sailing too close to the wind

YOURSAY | By calling Mahathir a ‘mamak’, what does Lokman hope to achieve?

At Malay rights rally, Lokman calls Dr M a 'mamak', 'demon'

Anonymous 287211434594786: This once too often repeated rhetoric that "the bumiputeras failed to seize NEP opportunities" is pure bunkum to hoodwink Malaysians and to perpetuate racial discrimination and apartheid policies in perpetuity.

If the bumis did not benefit from the New Economic Policy (NEP), where did all the money go to? How did we accumulate RM1 trillion in national debt and liabilities?

And how is it the Malays did not seize the opportunities when the entire civil administration, public institutions, government-linked companies (GLCs) and state-owned corporations such as Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), Mara, Petronas and a host of other organisations are in the hands of one race?

To put it in a nutshell, this kind of rhetoric is to cover up Umno's 46 years of failed affirmative policies that largely went to enrich corrupt politicians and their cronies.

Most of the rich Malays today are those who seized the opportunities of the NEP at the expense of the deserving Malays.

RR: Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam has violated the law and all decency when he delivered his speech of hatred inciting the Malays at the rally 'Himpunan Melayu Bangkit' or ‘Malays Arise'.

Though the sedition law is to be repealed, there are sufficient laws to arrest the hate mongers to keep the peace in the nation.

Redmann: Yes, shouldn't this man be picked up and questioned for stoking fears, kindling ethnic sparks and fomenting religious passions?

What gives this man a carte blanche to demonise the PM, the chief justice (CJ) and the attorney-general (AG)? When do we put an end to this?

Will the government be proactive in enforcing Article 149(1)(c) to take action against those who are committed "to promote feelings of ill-will and hostility between different races or other classes of the population likely to cause violence...".

If this troublemaker goes scot-free, what is stopping a Christian, Hindu, Sikh, Taoist, Jain or Buddhist from casting aspersions on Malay Muslims?

David Dass: This is why the Bumiputera Congress was deemed necessary. Umno will continue to stoke the fires of racism and religious extremism.

There is no basis or substance for the allegations made.

The decision to bring a case against a Malay ruler will not be lightly made. Those making the decision will have to be certain that the majority of Malays will support such a decision. In other words, the alleged offence will be grave and serious. Such prosecutions will be rare. Perhaps never made.

The position of religious conversions in Sabah and Sarawak is quite different from that of the peninsula. There are Christians and Muslims in the same family. As it is in Indonesia.

The question of whether there can be conversions requires the interpretation of the constitutional provision guaranteeing freedom of worship.

A judge is required to interpret the constitution independently in accordance with certain principles or canons of construction. He is required to use his best judgement in accordance with his conscience.

CJ Richard Malanjum disagreed with the majority decisions in both those cases not because he was a Christian and opposed to Islam but because he believed that that was the correct interpretation. That is our system of justice.

Two individuals (CJ and AG) will not alter the course of the nation. Two individuals will not undermine Islam. There have been at least two non-Malays who served as attorney-general after Independence - Cecil Majella Sheridan and Athi Nahappan.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad has done more for the Malays than any previous prime minister. To deliberately create racial unrest because Umno has lost power is foolish and dangerous.

Malaysia's prosperity was the result of all races working together in a peaceful way for the sake of the nation. Money raised from taxes imposed on all Malaysians, whatever their race or religion, has been used to fund government expenditure.

Abd.Karim: I used to think that DAP was a party which spewed racism. But now we know the real culprits and it's none other than Umno members.

To cover their tracks on their ill-gotten wealth, they have desperately resorted to racism. This is at the expense of national security and well-being of the rakyat.

CQ Muarku: Lokman should be immediately hauled up and remanded for political uprising against a democratically elected government.

If gone unchecked, his extreme provocation could cause untold damage to the peace and stability of our beloved country.

Under no circumstances must Lokman be allowed to raise such sensitivity in public in our multiracial society.

Cogito Ergo Sum: Drumming up racism and pretending it is nationalism has been the mantra of Umno/BN over the past 60 years. This kind of politics was rejected by the rakyat.

By calling Mahathir a ‘mamak’, what does Lokman hope to achieve? That Indian Muslims are not genuine Muslims? I hope Umno politicians who are of Indian origin realise that they have no place in Umno.

This is the ranting of a desperate fanatic who has lost it all. When BN was in power, no action would have been taken against race baiting. Today, it is imperative that such divisive exhortations must be stopped and punished.

These fanatics want to destroy what little the previous regime has left the people. “If we can’t have it, neither can you” seems to be the mantra running now.

I hope that this toxic rhetoric will finally open the eyes of all Malaysians. We have no time for petty prejudices.

Kangkung: Free speech must be protected but there is a thin line when it is free speech and when it is not. Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, Lokman and many more are sailing close to the wind.

The authorities must investigate these people's speeches and charge them in court if they are found to be trying to instigate racial or religious tension.

Anonymous 1850141437301427: Rehashing lies time and again does not make them true. Trying to steer people's attention away from the exposure of corruption and theft using racist sentiments will not work.

Malaysians can see with their own eyes who the traitors and “demons” really are.

Anonymous_1378542505: Malaysian, please wake up. Lokman and Tajuddin are the paid instigators of former PM Najib Razak.

Their game plan is to stir racial and religious hatred to overthrow the new government so that Najib can avoid jail and the gang can continue to loot the country and sell everything to China piece by piece.

They don't give a damn about the Malays. It's all about themselves.
