Lawyers representing Rosmah Mansor have dismissed claims by the police that no one has come forward to officially claim the luxury assets seized in raids on residences linked to former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

At a press conference at Bukit Aman yesterday, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Noor Rashid Ibrahim Noor Rashid had said there has been no official claim with regard to the RM114 million in cash and valuables seized from the residences.

"That's not true," said Iskandar Shah Ibrahim, one of Rosmah's lawyers.

"We have made an official request to claim items belonging to Rosmah and her children, Nooryana Najwa and Mohd Ashman, since July.

"However, police declined our request under the pretext that the seized items were still under investigation," Iskandar told Malaysiakini.

He also revealed that police had yet to summon Rosmah to record her statement on the items seized.

The request letters for the seized items from Rosmah's lawyer, sighted by Malaysiakini, showed that the requests were made on July 24 and 25 and were addressed to Federal Anti-Money Laundering (Amla) Unit head SAC Khalil Azlan Chik.

A letter from the Amla unit dated July 30 and purportedly signed by Khalil states that police were still investigating and therefore they could not fulfil Rosmah's request to have documents regarding her items given to her lawyers.

In the series of raids on residences linked to Najib earlier this year, police seized a haul of cash, luxury handbags and accessories believed to have a total market value of more than RM1.1 billion.

They seized 284 boxes of luxury handbags and 72 luggage bags filled with jewellery and cash.

While Najib claims the cash is Umno's, most of the items have been linked to his wife Rosmah Mansor and their daughter, who said these were her wedding gifts.
