The wife of late Cradle Fund CEO Nazrin Hassan, who was placed under police remand to facilitate a probe into his murder, was released on Thursday.

Selangor CID chief Fadzil Ahmat confirmed this, and told Malaysiakini that their investigations into the murder case were still ongoing.

Having been remanded for 10 days, Nazrin's wife was the last suspect that police had in their custody. Police had also detained the woman's ex-husband and their two biological sons.

The woman and her ex-husband, both arrested on September 4, were initially remanded for seven days, but he had since been released.

Their sons, aged 16 and 14, were picked up last Saturday, before investigators acquired a seven-day remand order from the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court.

However, the boys were released on Wednesday after the Shah Alam High Court granted a revision on the remand order. The court found that there was no strong justification to remand them for seven days.

When asked if police have more suspects on their list, Fadzil told Malaysiakini that investigations are still ongoing.

He said they will forward the investigation papers to the deputy public prosecutor soon for further instructions and declined to provide further details.

Nazrin died in a fire at his house at Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya, at about 12.20pm on June 14.

Although his death was initially investigated as sudden death, police reclassified their probe into the incident last month as murder.

Fadzil had reportedly said that the death of Nazrin had been reclassified under Section 302 of the Penal Code after the Fire and Rescue Department’s forensic report showed the presence of petrol at the incident’s location.
