Najib nabbed over RM2.6b; Umno continues to bleed MPs

Najib arrested

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak was arrested by the MACC and is expected to be charged today in regards to the RM2.6 billion found in his personal account, which authorities believe came from embattled fund 1MDB.

Commenting on the 3pm court proceeding for the charge, Najib's daughter Nooryana Najwa expressed concern that the late afternoon session could result in her father spending an extra night in detention.

Lokman Noor Adam, who is an Umno supreme council member and a staunch supporter of Najib, alleged the government is using the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Amla) like the now-abolished Internal Security Act - to stifle political dissent.

Meanwhile, Wall Street Journal reporter Tom Wright, who co-wrote “The Billion Dollar Whale”, claimed that fugitive financier Low Taek Jho used Najib as a cover so that there would not be any questions about his involvement in 1MDB.

Commenting on a news report about the absence of Low and his father Larry Low on the Interpol's Red Notice list, inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said Interpol has its own protocol in deciding whether to make the names on its wanted list public.

Umno continues to bleed MPs

After the resignation of Jeli MP Mustapa Mohamad on Tuesday, Kimanis MP Anifah Aman followed suit yesterday, citing BN and Umno's failure to deliver on promises made in relation to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi crit icised those who have left the party during trying times following its GE14 defeat, saying their attitudes are not 'praiseworthy nor exemplary.'

Meanwhile, his deputy Mohamad Hasan acknowledged that Umno was rather 'slow' in fixing its image and reputation following the election loss, and promised to address it the soonest possible.

Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin said that according to sources and predictions, more Umno MPs are expected to quit the party.

Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin denied he was quitting Umno, citing his attendance at the party's political bureau meeting at PWTC.

Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa said no action will be taken against Padang Rengas MP Nazri Aziz for saying he will campaign for PKR's Anwar Ibrahim in Port Dickson, as Umno is yet to decide whether to contest there.

In a blog post, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad expressed his dislike for PAS, saying that the party has been splitting the Malay Muslims by political allegiance, since 1955.

Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail confirmed that she and her husband Anwar Ibrahim mortgaged their house to raise funds for the 14th general election.
