Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin insists that he not will quit Umno.

Met at the Putra World Trade Centre, the former Umno Youth chief said if he wanted to quit, he would not have attended the party event there today.

"If I wanted to quit Umno, I would not have come to the political bureau meeting today," he told reporters.

Khairy was there to discuss the opposition's alternative budget with other Umno leaders.

He was responding to a question on a list circulating on social media which named 18 Umno leaders rumoured to be quitting the party.

Meanwhile, Khairy said he hoped all BN lawmakers would be opposition members of calibre.

Jeli MP Mustapa Mohamed and Kimanis MP Anifah Aman announced their resignations from the party yesterday and today respectively.

Mustapa cited the difficulty of addressing the trust deficit in Umno as the reason for his departure, while Anifah said Umno and BN had failed to deliver on promises made in relation to the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

Umno won a total of 54 parliamentary seats in the 14th general election, but five MPs have since quit.

Besides Mustapa and Anifah, Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal and Bagan Serai MP Noor Azmi Ghazali have also left the party.
