The police's Commercial Crime Investigation Department  (CCID) has recorded more than 70 statements in relation to 1MDB, including two from former 1MDB chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy.

In revealing this, the department's chief Amar Singh added that police will also summon former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor soon. He did not supply further details on the matter. 

"We have recorded 70-odd statements and we shall be calling Datuk Seri Najib soon," Amar said in a press conference at Menara 238, Kuala Lumpur today.

Yesterday, deputy inspector-general of police Noor Rashid Ibrahim said that Rosmah would be required to verify seized jewellery allegedly belonging to her.

"Yes, we will call Rosmah," Amar added when asked to confirm Noor Rashid's statement. 

With regards to Arul’s two statements, Amar said that police had recorded a statement from him yesterday. However, he did not mention when the other probe had been held.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that the CCID had grilled Arul for five hours.

He was believed to have been quizzed about public talks he had given regarding 1MDB prior to the 14th general election. 

Najib claimed trial last week to 25 charges for money-laundering and abuse of power in regards to RM2.6 billion found in his personal bank account, which prosecutors claim was misappropriated from 1MDB.

In addition, the former premier had claimed trial earlier to four counts of criminal breach of trust and abuse of power and another three counts of money laundering concerning RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former subsidiary of 1MDB.
