Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman has urged Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa to provide details on the students who were allegedly threatened for attending the Umno general assembly.
"I promise that their rights will be protected. Students have a right to be involved in politics, even if they are pro-Umno," wrote the minister on Twitter today.

Earlier today, Umno Online cited Annuar claiming that he knew of undergraduates who were threatened with scholarship revocation for participating in the event, although the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (UUCA) has been amended to allow students to be involved in politics.
"I don't see anything wrong with undergraduates attending the Umno AGM. I hope such things (threats) are not happening because the government and universities must respect and uphold the promise," Annuar said.
Local and foreign tertiary students are usually given a speaking slot at the event. According to Umno Online, 69 students will attending the event this weekend.
