PD POLLS | Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan has announced that he will be in the running for the Port Dickson by-election and will take on his former boss Anwar Ibrahim.
Saiful told The Star that he was not backed by any party and that his candidacy has nothing to do with his past with Anwar.
"I am contesting purely as an independent without any party backing me.
"Let me set the record straight, I am not contesting because of my past with Anwar but for other reasons," he said.
"I have thought about it thoroughly and I feel it is the right move."
Anwar was jailed in 2015 after the Federal Court upheld Anwar's conviction for sodomising Mohd Saiful in 2008.
However, Anwar was granted a full pardon by the palace on May 16.
Should Saiful hand his nomination papers tomorrow, the Port Dickson by-election would be crowded race involving PAS, Parti Rakyat Malaysia and independents Isa Samad and Stevie Chan.
The nomination process will take place tomorrow.
