UMNO AGM | An Umno Youth delegate has warned the party against its president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's plans to form a unity government, saying that this would only result in the party being punished in the future.
Pahang Umno Youth delegate Mohd Farid Mohd Nor said such a government would crumble at the next election.
"There are plans now, that by uniting with other parties, we can form the government.
"But this government will not last long. We will continue to be hated, and we will be punished in the next election," Mohd Farid told delegates at the Umno Youth general assembly in Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur today.
In a New Straits Times interview published on Thursday, Zahid had said Umno was ready to form a unity government by joining forces with any Pakatan Harapan party.
Earlier today, Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki had also rejected the unity government proposal, saying it was dishonourable.
Stop the 'denial syndrome'
Kedah Umno youth delegate Syed Mohd Johan Rizal Syed Unan Mashiri in his speech later opposed the unity government plan in more blunt terms, using sodomy references.
"Let's not use the back door. Let's not practice things against the order of nature to form a government. Or else we'll be called party 'kunyit'," Syed Mohd Johan Rizal said.
Kunyit, or tumeric, is a Malay slang term to describe homosexuality.
Meanwhile, Mohd Farid also called on party leaders to stop saying that Malays still supported Umno.
He said this is clearly untrue because less than 50 percent of Malays voted for Umno in the 14th general election.
"This denial syndrome must be stopped. We have to admit that the Malays don't support us. They don't want to see us form the government," he said.
On a different matter, Mohd Farid also called on the youth wing leadership to unite the "conservative" and "progressive" factions in the wing, as both were dedicated to the party.
