Cops warn Johor PKR members to behave during party polls

PKR POLLS | Johor police today warned all PKR members involved in the party’s election tomorrow against acts which violate the law.

State police chief Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said police would not hesitate to take stern action against those who did not obey the law.

He said police would be monitoring to avoid any breakouts of untoward incidents.

“We are also in touch with PKR and all district police chiefs have been directed to be on the alert during the election,” he told Bernama when contacted here today.

According to him, police would act if there were incidents such as the brawls which occurred in several party state elections recently.

He added the officers will be monitoring the situation in general, as there were no special unit personnel deployed at the election centre tomorrow.

A total of 38,684 Johor PKR members are eligible to vote for the 24 division leadership posts.

In the election, 53 candidates would be contesting for the division chief posts, while 163 candidates have offered themselves to stand as deputy division heads, vice division heads and members of the division committee.

On Sept 22, police arrested four men aged between in their 20s and 40s after fights broke out causing injuries in Merbok.

This followed the voting system at the division not proceeding smoothly, with the system breaking down causing delays in voting as well as misunderstandings between party personnel and voting members.
