UMNO AGM | An Umno Youth delegate has likened Umno's downfall in the 14th general election to the collapse of mobile phone giant Nokia.

Batu Sapi Umno division chief Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan said that like the Finnish company, Umno had become complacent, and did not pursue further innovation.

"Nokia, like Umno, was extremely popular, but they failed because their product manager told the boss 'Don't worry, everything is OK, don't need to evolve, consumers are comfortable with our phone and they will keep buying it'," he told delegates at the Umno annual general assembly in Kuala Lumpur today.

In contrast, Khairul Firdaus said, Pakatan Harapan is like Samsung, who innovated their products and rose to become a market leader.

As for Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, he said the 93-year-old is like Apple, who made a successful comeback after facing problems.

Taking the analogy further, Khairul Firdaus compared Umno Youth to power banks – only to be used when needed.

This, he said, is evident in just three Umno Youth leaders being fielded in the last general election.

He added that the results of the election showed that experience does not necessarily trump youth, as many Umno veterans had been defeated by political newcomers.

"So in the next general election, I plead, those old-timers who have been around too long, give way and give advice to the Youth, Puteri, and other newcomers," he said.
